I checked the fuse.
It was fine.
My car radio/cassette player is officially dead.
I has been this way ever since the first week of May. I wanted to fix it and then I decided that I would try silence for a little while. It has almost been two months now and I still reach for the knob to turn it on, but I have learned that silence is okay.
Why do we always have noise in our lives?
I remember hiking in Austria with my team during upward bound. The North Americans on my team, who made up the majority, were chattering away constantly until my dear German teammate stated something along the lines of, "Why can't we just have silence for a while?" I am thankful for her comment because I think it got me thinking about silence and made me realize more fully how much we think noise is nessessary, whether it be music or talking or whatever. I love the sound of silence, although sometimes it is scary. I think I need it more often because it is in those times that I am able to think, and actually hear what my Father is telling me.
I am not replacing my radio for a while I think.
My thoughts are scattered right now.
Too much noise in my head perhaps.
Gotta be still.
P.S. Two days ago my fellow gardeners and I discovered our two cheesy Nomes (Spelling not right) blindfolded with their mouths taped with red duct tape. Disturbing, yet fairly humorous.

I must say that I don't think I ever truly appreciated silence until I became a mother and auntie. Now I love to have silence when at all possible.
However, I'm also a bit too much of a people person and have a bit of trouble being alone in my silence. That's something that I need to work on. Being alone with our heavenly father, in silence.

The reason Abbey mentions "as an auntie" is because my daughter (her neice) talks continually from the moment she wakes up until the moment she falls asleep. If she is not talking or singing or humming or otherwise making noise... you better go check what she is doing! I used to love having the radio on or even TV for the noise. But not for a few years now. I love silence. And if there is music on I like it quiet. I have turned into an old person or something. Oh well. In the quiet moments when I am doing dishes, is when I contemplate the big issues best and listen best... to what God is trying to get through to me. "Be still (and be quiet for a few minutes) and know that I am God!" Have a great day Kara!

Wonderfully put my friend. As a soon to be practicing teacher I too will look forward to those moments of complete silence. A time to listen to my Heavenly Father.
If you need a friend to hang out with while house sitting just give me a call.
